Hello Pilots!
We’re looking forward to seeing you at Chelan Washington USA for the Paragliding World Cup! The dates for this event will be July 18th - 24th, with the 17th as the practice day.
Chelan is a small town located in Washington State (western United States, not DC). Geographically located on the eastern side of the Cascade Mountains, it provides a combination of mountain and f
lat
land flying. Chelan is known for strong thermals and the potential for long cross country flights with paraglider and hanglider pilots often reaching altitudes above 3600 meters (2600 meters agl). There are many roads for easy retrieve, and a beautiful lake and town right at the base of launch.
Mid July is considered the prime thermal cross country flying season at Chelan, and it is not uncommon for climb rates to exceed 7+ meter/sec. The daytime temperature in Chelan is usually 32+ C° (90 F°) in the day during July, and evenings cool off nicely.
The closest large airport to fly into is Seattle Washington, known as SEA-TAC. From there it is possible to catch another flight to the town of Wenatchee (KEAT), however the drive from Seattle to Chelan is only about 3 hours. Check out the directions page for more information on transportation to and from Seattle to Chelan.
There is a paragliding competition going on the week of July 10th -15th at Chelan Butte as well. This will be the first in the U.S. Nationals series, and is also a cross country race to goal competition hosted by the same organizers. For more information visit ChelanXCOpen.com
